Ten ‘Big Bangs’ in criminological theory and practice in the last 50 years

Thu, September 4, 9:30 to 10:45am, Communications Building (CN), CN 2110

Abstract

The Big Bang is the best model used by astronomers to explain the creation of matter, space and time 13.7 billion years ago. But there have been a number of Big Bangs in criminological theory and practice, too, over a more recent time frame. In this presentation, three experienced criminological academics have pooled their thoughts on the topic of what they consider to be are the criminological ‘Big Bangs’ over the last half century. They asked themselves: Who are the academics across the world who have most inspired the work of modern day criminologists? Which academics across the world have generated the most interest or controversy? Come and see if you agree with their final top ten ‘Big Bangs.’ Come and see if you are listed as one of the instigators of a Big Bang!
