Many environmental organisations promote a risk-based approach to addressing green crimes and safeguarding the environment. In this presentation, we explore the meaning of this expression, dispel common misconceptions, and discuss whether a single approach truly exists. Beginning with a theoretical construct, we transition to its practical application to solving real-world problems such as waste crime, rural crime, and protecting sites of special scientific interest. The principles outlined in this presentation are based on insights from a recent project with Natural England.
