The application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Greek prisons raises significant issues related to the trust of correctional staff, the values of the system, and potential changes in the operation of the correctional environment. This study focuses on prison employees' perceptions of AI, their trust in its implementation, and the possible consequences of its adoption on the daily functioning of prisons. To explore these perceptions, twenty semi-structured interviews will be conducted with correctional staff, administrative personnel, and scientific staff from correctional facilities in Northern Greece. The interviews will be analyzed through thematic analysis. This study aims to contribute to the broader discussion on the integration of AI in correctional facilities, highlighting not only technological advancements but also the ethical and operational challenges that arise. By examining the attitudes of correctional staff, the study will help identify potential barriers to AI adoption, as well as concerns related to privacy and security. Additionally, it will explore how AI can align with the core values of the correctional system, such as respect for human dignity and justice, while offering more efficient tools for inmate management and rehabilitation. The findings will provide a valuable framework for policymakers and correctional authorities, assisting in the responsible and balanced implementation of AI.
