Does Criminology have a need for the concept of ‘Moral Character’? Evidence from two countries.

Thu, September 4, 4:00 to 5:15pm, Communications Building (CN), CN 2112

Abstract

Moral attitudes, values, beliefs and emotions are a core feature of multiple major criminological theories. This paper draws on longitudinal studies from the United Kingdom and Romania, and deploys latent profile analysis to examine whether several key dimensions of personal morality cluster systematically to produce specific ‘moral characters’ and whether these are related to different levels of crime engagement.
