The association between dysfunctional personality traits and the risk of committing crimes has always been a key focus for experts in criminality and prevention. Over the years, our research group has delved deeply into understanding the relationship between Cluster B personality traits or psychopathic traits and the likelihood of criminal behavior, with a particular emphasis on crimes like IPV and gender-based violence. We’ve also asked some crucial questions: what are the triggering factors that drive individuals with psychopathic traits or personality disorders to commit crimes? Once the psychopathological profile of the criminal is identified, can we develop effective guidelines to prevent crime or reduce the risk of reoffending? And which treatments are most effective for these individuals?
