This paper outlines the approach to measuring assisted desistance in two maximum security prisons in Australia. It discusses priority items for reform (as conceived by staff and inmates) in each location, and the relative progress toward enhancing the primary, secondary and tertiary aspects of desistance. Implications for correctional practice and “rehabilitation” are briefly discussed.
