P002. 2PS – Training Materials for law enforcement agencies for the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse (CSA)

Thu, September 4, 6:45 to 8:00pm, Other Venues, Poster Venue

Abstract

Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) and the use of Child Sexual Exploitation Material (CSEM) online are growing concerns with profound consequences for victims. Addressing this issue requires more than just police intervention; it demands a proactive approach aimed at preventing CSA before it occurs. Preventive approaches can reduce CSA and the use of CSEM online, thereby preventing harm to children.
The poster presents data from a currently running project (Protect and Prevent Through Support – 2PS project funded by European Union’s Horizon Europe Programe), which aims to tackle various urgent issues related to Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation (CSAE), particularly in the online environment (OCSAE), through police prevention initiatives over the course of three years.
2PS collaborates with global steakholders ( e.g. steakholder nennen) to establish the databasis for a cohesive approach that prioritises preventive measures complementing current strategies. With the goal to protect children by addressing the support needs of individuals with a sexual interest in children, providing them with alternative pathways.
A new training programme on the CSAM phenomenon has been developed specifically for law enforcement agencies. The training consists of four modules: Self-Care, Communication, Prevention and Threat Management, which provide practical approaches to dealing with this sensitive issue. The aim is to strengthen participants' resilience, improve their communication strategies and promote effective prevention and threat management measures. The programme is currently in a pilot and evaluation phase to test its effectiveness and adapt it as necessary. Early feedback will help to optimise the training.
