Platforming lived experience through writing partnership

Thu, September 4, 5:30 to 6:45pm, Deree | Classrooms, DC 701

Abstract

This paper will explore the evolution of a writing partnership between an academic and a person serving a prison sentence who initially met as educator and student. Their shared interest in penological study and their united views about the value of education has led to publications centred on platforming lived experience as a crucial principle of knowledge and knowing. This paper will follow their collaborative journey and highlight the challenges they are currently facing in their ongoing work, focusing on three key publications which have been developed in different ways. This will explore some ways of ‘doing’ knowledge equity which ensures that lived experience collaboration is at the forefront of knowledge sharing (publication), as well as knowledge creation (research).
