Criminological implications of the gambling boom in Romania: how losing odds lead to committing frauds

Abstract

Based on the author's experience as a judge, the paper presents case studies which illustrate the cultural, cognitive, and social implications of gambling. With diverse approaches and case law studies, the presentation examines the link between the gambling boom in Romania, gambling addiction and criminal activity, focusing on the feasibility of criminal punishment as an efficient response.
