This is the second of a two-part presentation where the authors critically reflect on some current concerns regarding the importance and limitations of ethical frameworks and codes of practice and their implementation. In particular , they consider the following: the challenges posed by ‘mission creep’ whereby risk assessment slips into unduly prescriptive notions of what might be acceptable research methods; the challenge posed to professional autonomy and judgement by restrictive Codes of Ethics, and, the specific challenges posed to ethics by online research.
