Dynamics of suicidal behavior in Poland

Fri, September 5, 6:30 to 7:45pm, Communications Building (CN), CN 3103

Abstract

Intentional taking one's own life, understood as a categorical resignation from the fight for survival, an extreme loss of hope for overcoming the internal crisis, is undoubtedly one of the most difficult to explain tragedies affecting humanity. A person, making the final decision, which has irreversible consequences, is in a mental state that causes an internal blockage, manifests a lack of determination in looking for an alternative way to cope with the subjectively assessed as hopeless situation in which he finds himself. The author of the study attempted to explain the essence of the presuicidal syndrome and the difficulties with its identification by the environment of a person in a suicidal crisis. The article also analyzes the dynamics of suicide attempts in Poland in the years 2012-2023, taking into account the worrying trends in relation to children and adolescents.
