Session Submission Type: Roundtable
This roundtable addresses the pressing issue of the criminalisation of dissent and protest, a topic which has recently attracted significant public, media and scholarly attention, not least because of the many newly enacted punitive laws and high-profile police and court cases against activists worldwide. The roundtable seeks to do so through engaging with a recently published book - 'Criminalisation of Dissent in Times of Crisis' (Palgrave, 2024; see https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-031-75376-3). It will feature short presentations from some of the book's contributors which will help highlight some of its key themes, while also serving as a space for public engagement and critical discussion of the criminalisation and dissent and protest in contemporary times.
