Session Submission Type: Pre-arranged Panel
Funded by Youth Endowment Fund, Another Chance is a multi-centred evaluation of a focused deterrence intervention developed and implemented in five cities in England. Beginning in 2022 and concluding in 2027, it is one of the first randomised controlled trials of focused deterrence and among the largest randomised trials of a violence intervention.
The project takes a realist randomised controlled trial approach, combining extensive fieldwork into the contexts, mechanisms and outcomes of the intervention with a robust causal design. As the project enters the intervention follow-up period, the panel papers will discuss learning from intervention delivery and programme evaluation to date including a project overview, early quantitative findings, a discussion of contextual differences in intervention mechanism and insights into cohort member engagements and disengagement from the support components of the intervention. These will be discussed with reference to evaluation methodology, the direction of UK violence prevention activity and theoretical understandings of how people desist from violence
