Session Submission Type: Roundtable
This roundtable discussion highlights the growth and accomplishments of Baltic Criminology over the past 25 years. Starting with a short overview of the historical background of criminology at the beginning of the 21st century in Estonia, Lithuania, and Poland the scholars will discuss the following aspects: the status of criminology research and studies in the Baltic States; criminologists’ communities and power centers of research and studies in Baltic countries; main contributions of scholars working in the field of criminology and issues they focus on in Estonia, Lithuania and Poland. The discussion will also touch upon the issue of cooperation between state institutions and scientists, discussing to what extent political and/or governmental decisions are related to the recommendations of criminologists in each Baltic state. The discussion will end with the final question about the common identity of Baltic criminology: do we have it, and what are the uniting factors and powers for criminologists working in this geopolitical region?
