Session Submission Type: Roundtable
Mario Biagioli’s persistent, roving intellect led him across fields and disciplines, from the astronomical spectacles and the canny social strategies of early modern Italian courtiers to the world of twenty-first century intellectual property law. Mario had a knack for collapsing the distance between what may have seemed like disparate concepts, moments in time, and literatures, bringing them into relationship with each other, and illuminating something new about each one. Featuring reflections from students and colleagues, this roundtable offers historians of science an opportunity to celebrate the scholarship of Mario Biagioli and examine its impact on the field. Mario always asked the smartest question in any room he was in. In that spirit, we hope to ask a few good ones.
