Against the background of the communication privacy management theory and the disclosure calculus model, this study investigates how perceived risks and benefits of Facebook use of indiviuals who have to deal with a public and a private representation of themselves influence the extent of self-disclosure of professional on Facebook. An online survey of 222 professional models from 43 nations reveals that this risk-benefit calculus explains self-disclosure to a considerable extent. Results show that especially different forms of integration into the community and expectations of care provided by the others as well as the carelessness of data security aspects lead to a higher extent of self-disclosure.
