Convenient or Empowering: Trends of Internet Usage Among Women in the UAE

Abstract

This paper discusses patterns of Internet adoption by UAE women. Based on a quantitative analysis of three years of data, the research explores gendered trends in technology usage. The results show that the usage of the technology by UAE women is rather convenient and online activities are timidly leading to development; yet through the will of the government, recent initiatives taken towards women’s empowerment are thought to be accelerating women’s path towards progress.
