Journalists and the IPCC: Professional Evaluations

Abstract

This presentation surveys a group of internationally and nationally key journalists in the countries studied in the main corpus. Through the survey, the presentation focuses on the following questions. How do the journalists evaluate IPCC communication activities? What do they see as the main problems? How do they see the forthcoming impact of IPCC on public debates, policy networks (nationally and internationally)? What kind of benchmarks do they use? What/who are other good/reliable sources of climate science? In the field of media studies the chapter tests and builds the theory of specific problem areas/constructions as the key to understanding transnational professionalism in journalism. In the field of communication, the chapter looks at the usefulness and translation criteria of journalists in relations to scientific evidence.
