Digital Networks and Narratives: Mapping the IPCC AR5 flows

Mon, May 25, 10:30 to 11:45, Caribe Hilton, San Cristobal Ballroom F

Abstract

This presentation will study the traces of the IPCC report in the digital networks that emerge between mainstream journalism and new forms of media and communication. It will pick up key frames, phrases and narratives from the IPCC report and relate them to media coverage by tracking and mapping some of the dominant trajectories of their evolvement in the digital landscape. Using methods of network analysis and modern software visualization tools, the presentation will sketch out the digital networks of information that form an increasingly important part of the global communication infrastructure. Such network ethnography will extend the analysis across the porous boundaries between professional journalism and new forms and actors of “networked journalism”.
