Understanding how collaboration networks should be structured is an important question for increasing the performance of networked groups of problem solvers. This study identifies a trade-off between efficient networks that diffuse solutions rapidly and inefficient networks that maintain information diversity among the group, which promotes better collective problem solving. Using an agent-based simulation and an experimental design, this study shows how slowing down communication may provide better outcomes for collective problem solving.
