Ventriloqual Career Designs: Explicating the “Pushing Hands (推手)” of Women’s Entrepreneuring in China

Abstract

Analyzing 20 in-depth interviews with women entrepreneurs in China using grounded theory techniques (Charmaz, 2006) and ventriloqual analysis (Cooren, Matte, Benoit-Barné, & Brummans, 2013), this paper argues that entrepreneurial career can be viewed as constant design processes whereby women entrepreneurs and various design agents (e.g., policies, cultural norms, family members, and technology) engage in ventriloqual constructions to frame the design choices of entrepreneurial careers (Cooren, et al., 2013).
