This paper seeks to advance the idea of communitarianism, which arose just twenty-five years ago in Western studies of media ethics, as a viable and valuable media ethics by connecting it to notions espoused more than three quarters of a century ago by Tetsuro Watsuji, a Japanese philosopher whose notions of privacy, trust, and mutuality have been largely ignored by media scholars in the West.
