Dual Processing of Information in Social Media: Interaction Effects of Outcome Involvement With Argument Quality and the Group Identity Heuristicc

Abstract

With an influx of health information available in social media, the need to investigate information processing in social media is emerging. The current study examined the persuasive impact of argument quality and source’s group identity depending on individuals’ outcome involvement level. Results showed that outcome involvement and argument quality produced a significant interaction for risk perception under certain argument stance condition. Findings and implications will be discussed.
