Knowing About Latin America in China: Information Sources, Media Portrayals, and Gratifications

Abstract

Applying a grounded theory approach, this paper examines the perception of Latin American nations among a group of Chinese who have lived in the region. The result shows that little information about Latin America is available in Chinese media and people rely largely on other information sources. And the portrayal of Latin America in Chinese media can be deceptive and the mutual understanding between the peoples of the two regions is largely insufficient.
