In the mood to be transported: Mood effects on transportation and persuasion for narrative and rhetorical health messages.

Sat, June 11, 12:30 to 13:45, Fukuoka Hilton, Navis B

Abstract

A 2 (mood induction: positive versus negative ) x 2 (message type: narrative versus rhetorical) experiment examined transportation and persuasion following messages aimed at preventing mobile phone use while driving. Findings showed that narratives induced higher levels of transportation and persuasion than rhetorical messages, especially under conditions of (message-frame congruent) negative mood conditions.
