The role of event-congruent emotions in narrative persuasion

Sat, June 11, 12:30 to 13:45, Fukuoka Hilton, Navis B

Abstract

Stories often include a narrative arc (e.g., health problem, conflict, and resolution) which implies different emotional responses at different points throughout a story (e.g., fear and happiness). The concept of event-congruent-emotions is introduced and a study is presented that examined (event congruent/incongruent) emotional responses while watching a short movie by means of facial expression analyses. Event congruent emotional expressions are related to transportation/engagement and attitude change.
