This study examines the effects of group identification on the perception of media coverage about the respective group and the effects that result from these perceptions. We transfer the model of individual reciprocal effects of Kepplinger (2007) to social groups in order to investigate media use patterns, media perceptions and media effects on Turkish immigrants living in Germany. An online survey (N=242) reveals that they are highly involved when their ingroup is portrayed in the media. This involvement stimulates information-processing and media effects proposed in the model of reciprocal effects. Media coverage about Turkish immigrants causes negative emotions and leads to a negative perceived image of the ingroup among the German population.
