Much has been made of the new ways in which sports fans interact in various social forums and fan-based Internet sports communities (FBISCs). This presentation will attempt to uncouple and clarify differences in these ancillary mechanisms of media consumption. By differentiating media device from media platform and media network, important insights are made available about how each complements the other, and offer different insights from one another. Similarly, second-screen will be separated from discussions of selected screen and optimal available screen (OAS) to explore what sports fans choose out of necessity, as opposed to what sports fans select via optimization and choice. Future directions in sports mobile media research will be offered.
