Historical Legacies of Voice and Militarism: Communicating the Women of the Ku Klux Klan

Sat, May 26, 17:00 to 18:15, Hilton Prague, Floor: LL, Congress Hall II - Exhibit Hall/Posters

Abstract

This paper provides a case study of how the women's Ku Klux Klan movement of the 1920s used metaphors to craft an unlikely combination of racism and feminism. Specifically, this paper examines how Klanswomen developed a system of military metaphors to give voice to their agency as defenders of the nation.
