Exploring the Mobile Social Media App Adoption for Health Management

Abstract

WeChat as the largest and most popular mobile social media app in China has shown great potential for health communication and also for potential user’s health management, with one of the particular functions namely public account. Through the health-related public accounts, individuals can access vast and updated health information and health services to manage their general health, as well as communicate with health professionals anywhere and anytime. As the health behavior of adopting a healthcare technology involves multidimensional contexts, this study proposed a research model to better exploring the possible factors that influence one’s adoption, considering individual, sociological and technological contexts. A national survey with 522 participants was then conducted to empirically examined the possible factors affect individual’s adopting WeChat for health management.
