New Theories for a Networked Age: Satisficing Semantic Search

Mon, May 28, 9:30 to 10:45, Hilton Prague, Floor: M, Palmovka

Abstract

The abundance of civic discourse now observable via digital trace data creates potential for researching public opinion. Making use of these data requires understanding the theoretical processes by which they are produced. While some theories generated in the offline world usefully extend to online spaces, sometimes new theories are required to explain new phenomena. Dr. Margolin will introduce satisficing semantic search as one theoretical process that accounts for the content of and form in which online discourse is produced.
