A South Korean Liberal and Conservative Newspaper’s Coverage of Women’s Movements in the Country

Fri, May 25, 8:00 to 9:15, Hilton Old Town, Floor: M, Liszt

Abstract

The flow of news coverage of women’s movements in a conservative and a liberal South Korean newspaper shows an understanding of how newspapers presented the movements over time, indicating how the public understood the movements at the different times. Compared to the 1970s, newspapers in the 2010s displayed a deeper understanding of women’s rights and a more positive attitude toward women’s movements. In addition, the liberal newspaper focused more on women’s movements and women’s rights than the conservative newspaper.
