WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
This workshop is designed for those who hold or aspire to hold leadership positions in higher education, as well as those responsible for the leadership training and development efforts in colleges and universities.

WHAT WILL ATTENDEES GAIN?
Attendees will:
* Understand the wide array of contemporary challenges facing institutions of higher education and its leaders in both Academic Affairs and Student Affairs.
* Identify core concepts and principles associated with effective leadership in higher education.
* Become familiar with various tools for strategic planning, organizational assessment, and leading change in higher education.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
Introductions

Overview of current challenges facing institutions of higher education and the need for change in
the preparation of current and aspiring leaders. Presenters will highlight the following factors:
* Changing demographics and student needs
* Changing demands: Managing the dilemmas of a critical approach in contingent organizational structures
* Changing technologies: Disruption with purpose
* Changing leadership: Exploring gender and diversity in senior leadership

The next section of the workshop will include a discussion of various tools and strategies for addressing many of the “wicked problems” facing institutions of higher education. This section will provide participants with specific models and tools for addressing the following in their units, departments, and institutions:
* Integrated approaches to organizational assessment and continuous improvement
* Implementing change in turbulent times
* Coordinating strategic planning efforts

The final section of the workshop will provide participants with an opportunity to re-imagine the future of leadership development in higher education. Facilitators will guide participants through a series of activities related to the following areas of inquiry:
* Existing approaches to leadership education in higher education
* Future possibilities for enhancing academic leadership
* Implications of leadership education on the future of higher learning
* Conclusion
