Preparing Early for the Job Market

Thu, July 18, 2:00 to 3:30pm, TBA

Session Submission Type: Professional Development Workshop

Abstract

You do not have to put off market preparation to finish your degree. Strategically chosen professional development activities will both improve the quality of your research and help you complete your work on time. With proper synergy, you can start preparing for the market early – even in the first years of your degree. In this workshop, we’ll discuss how to survey the job market now and develop an individualized roadmap for maximizing your future marketability while completing your dissertation or thesis.

This workshop will be led by Chris Pallas, Professor of Conflict Management and Political Science at Kennesaw State University. The workshop will draw on lessons outlined in his book, Doctoral Student Skills: Using Your Comparative Advantage to Succeed in Grad School and Prepare for the Job Market (Routledge, 2022).
