Research for Practice (R4P) Affinity Group Meeting

Tue, July 16, 3:45 to 4:45pm, TBA

Session Submission Type: Meeting

Abstract

The Research for Practice Affinity Group (R4P AG) is a new affinity group for individuals who aim to strengthen collaborations between research and practice, whether they self-identify as a researcher, practitioner, or pracademic. This will be the Affinity Group's first convening to welcome interested members and agree on objectives and priorities for the first two years.

An draft list of potential affinity group strategies for discussion with ISTR members include the following:
• Facilitate more effective connections and collaborations between academics and practitioners. Facilitation might include:
- Translation & Dissemination: Support current efforts, and propose new ways, to bring high-quality research to the attention of practitioners in a relevant, understandable, and accessible manner.
- Matchmaking: Help researchers connect with practitioners seeking research support and vice-a-versa.
- Resourcing: Identify grants, fellowships, internships, post-doc opportunities to support these collaborations.
- Education & Training: Contribute towards education and training in third sector studies that foster effective academic-practitioner relationships.
• Meaningfully engage more practitioners in ISTR events, communications, and membership.
• Advocate for changes to institutional structures, policies, practices, education curriculum that can help bridge current gaps between research and practice.
• Promote the important work of the Pracademic Development Initiative (PDI), which is working to organize and lift up the work of the global pracademic community.

Please join us if you are interested to get involved with the Research for Practice Affinity Group and shape the group’s future strategy.
