Is there space for Latin American immigrant women in the global science?

Sat, May 30, 6:00 to 7:45pm, TBA

Abstract

Among all the changes brought by the globalization process the so-called internationalization of science has been one of its main issues. Nowadays scientific mobility is a must for any scientist who intends to build a solid career. However, although scientific field could be considered as an ultra qualified one, it should not be assumed that the structural societal inequalities disappeared from it. This paper objective is to discuss how gender, race, ethnic differences and the geopolitics hierarchies shape the experience of Latin American women in the scientific environment. Methodologically, based on a feminist perspective, specially the situated knowledge approach, deep interviews were conduct with Latin American women who are based in researcher centers in Portugal, Argentina, Spain and the USA aiming to draw a profile of their experiences. Moreover, as the papers authors we recognize ourselves as immigrant scientist women, therefore considered our won experience to support our reflections and analysis.
