The strategic importance of regional alliances in the south

Sat, May 30, 4:00 to 5:45pm, TBA

Abstract

A major portion of the Argentina surface, about 63%, is below the Atlantic Ocean. The southernmost province, Tierra del Fuego, is situated in the center of the country as seen from a bi-continental map. This territory has strong strategic connotations from a national defense perspective and, at the same time, the region, rich in natural resources, both renewables and nonrenewable, should be managed in a sustainable manner. Therefore, Ushuaia, the capital, should be considered a strategic neuralgic point with the participation of the Argentine army and the strategic collaboration of other countries in the region. The analysis in this paper suggests that a regional integration is the only viable alternative to support public policies geared to improve the well being of the people in the region.
