Shifting Holy Ground? Popular Religiosity and the Influence of Pentecostalism on the Experience of Latino/a Catholics

Abstract

Like all Latin Americans, Puerto Ricans have a particular tradition of popular religiosity even as they are part of a wider Latin American stream. Puerto Ricans, however, also have a particular relationship to religion and religious understandings in the United States, given their history. What is the relationship between such popular religion and the Pentecostal and charismatic experience? This study argues for connections and linkages rather than for breakages and ruptures.
