Session Submission Type: Panel
This panel brings together scholars to consider the current crisis to the “rule of law” in Mexico. Participants will reflect — through literature, political theory, and history — on the Mexican state of exception and how it has been imagined, criticized, or combated by different groups. We hope to illuminate the tenuous line between legality and illegality, and to make sense of the deep ambivalence about the state’s legitimacy that has shaped approaches by both academics and activists to the rule of law in Mexico.
