Session Submission Type: Panel
This panel presents an overview of countercultural thought in Mexico and considers the contribution of Mexican intellectuals to countercultural studies both in their own country as well as abroad (Price). It also focuses on literature (Janzen) and film (Pineda), and analyzes complex linkages between literary and filmic production to other expressions, such as religion and popular music. And also the political thought of José Revueltas and his influence on the young writers and the student activists of 1968 Mexico. The panel establishes the connection between countercultural production and major political developments in Mexico and Latin America during the sixties and seventies.
