Session Submission Type: Panel
These panels focus on the emerging paradigm of the real in contemporary Latin American theater and performance. Specifically, we will examine techniques of engaging the real such as site-specificity, auto/biography, and the innovative use of non-actors, personal documents, video and photography onstage. Ultimately we question how the affective hold of the real may transform spectatorship, private and public memories, modes of participation, and the kinds of truth claims theater can make.
