Session Submission Type: Panel
Developing media technology has rapidly reconfigured Latin American political landscapes during the last half century. This panel explores how mid-century Latin American poetry engages multiple publics by using multiple media, and how such mixed-media art is able to address separate viewing and reading audiences. How does this poetry handle power relations between cultures of spectatorship and cultures of readership? Does it privilege one over the other, or does it attempt to bring them together? How do such tactics negotiate between the local and the global, or how do they respond to the distance between cultures of modernism and modernization itself?
