Session Submission Type: Workshop
This workshop explores the pedagogical challenges and possibilities of critical teaching in the neoliberal classroom. Considering a range of teaching methodologies, we confront the corporate-led assault on liberal arts education that has shifted pedagogies and narrowed the curricula of higher education. Administrators are responding by chasing corporate “partnerships,” increasing class size, expanding online teaching, and raising tuition. This model of education has domesticated critical politics with a discourse of "public service" and "service learning.” Faced with growing social inequality and increasing economic precariousness for students across campuses, hands-on educators are employing alternative assets to address, alert, and - indeed- teach students in a time of crisis.
