Session Submission Type: Panel
Numerous social policy reforms have been implemented by federal, state and municipal governments in recent years to address persistent problems of poverty and inequality and the escalation of violence in Mexico. This panel highlights different aspects of recent reforms. These include new institutional arrangements for evaluation, reforms to the conditional cash transfer program, and innovative approaches to social policy that address such concerns as violence reduction, land use policy and labour market adjustment. These papers will apply distinct disciplinary and theoretical perspectives to analyzing the nature of recent changes and the prospects for more democratic and transparent practices.
