Session Submission Type: Panel
Health landscapes (healthscapes) vary across Latin America. The structural factors collide with culture, generating unique obstacles in studying health. This panel combines infectious diseases (tuberculosis) in the remote region of Paraguay and non-infectious diseases such as depression, diabetes, obesity, and cancer in Puerto Rico. All scholars focus on the interaction and feedback of health and culture to examine their specific questions. In similar manners the Paraguayan Chaco has been excluded from global health priorities due to its isolation, and the Puerto Rican insularism has maintained at the margin of health debates due to ease for studying mainland dwelling counterparts.
