Session Submission Type: Panel
Through analysis of contemporary films and texts from Brazil, this panel identifies the changing aesthetic representations of gender, sexuality, race and class. The geographies and spaces identified in these works highlight cultural trails created by the authors in their narrations of varying Brazilian realities. Novels, films, maps, and soap operas, serve as the means of reexamining how Brazilian citizens and their shared histories are presented as cultural production. This panel aims to underscore the differing processes of popular representation of marginalized subjectivities through close reading of these sources of cultural production.
