Session Submission Type: Panel
What is popular religion today? What are the shifting grounds and dynamics of popular religion, the devotions and expressions found among the popular classes, what some call ordinary theology? This panel shares empirical and theoretical work on specific contexts of popular religion and emerging meanings today, specifying the Puerto Rican, Cuban, and Haitian contexts, both on the island and mainland. A fourth specifically explores the shifting situatedness of popular religion in the case of emerging understandings of Mary among young adult Latinas from a diversity of origins outside the United States.
