Cuba was one of the Latin American countries, besides Peru, where Aprista organization went the furthest, with the founding in 1933 the Partido Aprista Cubano which later merged with the Partido Auténtico Cubano. The presence of APRA in Cuba constitutes an important chapter in the transnational history of APRA that is currently being explored by a number of scholars, thus helping to revise earlier conceptions of APRA only in terms of Peruvian national history. Apristas in Cuba were active in the area of publication, publishing such works as El aprismo ante la realidad cubana (1934) and founding an APRA youth group, the Federación Aprista Juvenil. This paper will examine the workings of Aprista politics in Cuba, relating Aprista activities both to Cuban and more broadly Latin American politics.
