Session Submission Type: Panel
When the founding scholars created LASA, they had a vision of research, teaching, and discussion of Latin American Studies. They could only imagine how the field would grow and the importance of scholarship on the student experience in the Americas. This panel pulls together several aspects of student life in the U.S. and Brazil, with a focus on first-generation college students, the Brazil Scientific Mobility Program, Obama’s 100,000 Strong in the Americas, the use of advanced creative techniques for improving academics, affirmative action in a Brazilian medical school, and the career choices of pharmacy students. The discussant will reflect on 50 years of research in LASA.
