Regional Cooperation, Regulation and Development. Europe and Latin America in a World in Transition

Wed, May 23, 10:45am to 12:15pm, TBA

Session Submission Type: Panel

Abstract

Global governance increasingly proceeds through the creation of transnational and regional regulations. Yet, with the exception of the European Union, the specific role of regions and regionalism in regulatory integration remains under-explored. Such absence seems puzzling given that regions and regional organizations are promoting new forms of regulatory regimes in various economic and social policy areas, sometimes challenging the more normative global governance scripts. This panel will explore the political, institutional and social processes underlying these (inter) regional regulatory dynamics in Europe and Latin America, and shed light on their evolution and transformative impact on development outcomes.
